Do as I Say, Not as I Do; BlogHer; GiveAway

You know, many of "us health & fitness" bloggers out there really know how to dish out the advice BUT do we take our own advice to heart & follow it? That is the question?

I do read ones that definitely follow their own advice, MizFit being one of them. Check her out if you have not done so and also check out her post, BlogHer Conference…WE GOT OUR SLOT! This post is about a session, Blogs & Body Image: What are we teaching our kids?,  that she will be giving along with three other bloggers at the upcoming BlogHer Conference. How much more important can you get! Many of us have our own body image issues whether we have lost our weight or not so let's not pass them on to the kids too! Also check out this great post of MizFit & her daughter, showing the love of thyself! It is about Operation Beautiful, a blogger that started a one woman campaign (which is spreading like the proverbial wildfire) against negative self talk. I have lots to learn from this. Even though I know it, I don't follow it ... a confession from Jody - Fit at 51! OK, MizFit, that is one thing I did today to help me get away from my current self-definition. I am not there but I admitted it!

OK, back to Do as I Say, Not as I Do. I already admitted above that I tell you all not to talk the negative stuff to yourself yet I have not mastered it myself. Let's all try to stop the negative talk. All we can do is try.... nobody is perfect & I expect this to be one of the hardest things for me to do.

BUT, there is another thing I tell you to do that I don't always do myself. YES, another confession from Fit at 51! I tell you all to listen to your body. This is of PRIME IMPORTANCE so you can make the changes your body "is telling you to do". I am really great at the food part & listening to my body & making the needed changes on that front. Where I fall back is the exercise part. Many of you have the opposite problem than me, the get up & just do it part. Me, I have the problem of not pulling back & resting my body when it tells me to! I am constantly pushing the limit every workout or almost every workout. I want to do more, HIIT more, go faster, lift better, just to prove to myself I can do it. Well, recently, I had a minor twitch in my glute. It does not stop me from working out but it is a "pain in the butt" (HA!) in more ways then one. So, I finally had to listen to my own advice.... should have done this 2-3 weeks ago... and I actually am pulling back a bit this week! I am not stopping my workouts but I am toning them down to give that glute area & my bod some rest from my own craziness. I am also doing more stretching than normal along with my foam roller & the tennis ball massaging (thx Margaret) in that glute area.

So, there ya have it.... My Do as I Say, Not as I Do. I have plenty more but that is mine for today along with the negative self talk I confessed to above! How about that MizFit!

Lastly, there is a WHOLE FOODS giveaway over at Feed Me I'm Cranky. OK, I was tempted not to share this, Annabel, to give me a better chance of winning this BUT I do get an extra entry for sharing this link PLUS why not share the love! Head over there & check it out.

So, do you have a Do as I Say, Not as I Do confession? Share please & make me feel better! Are you working to help your children feel good about themselves like MizFit & Operation Beautiful? Do you love Whole Foods like me but can't afford it? Of course I still love Trader Joes!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING AND FOR HELPING TO SPREAD THE WORD.

It is all such a tightrope walk and balance trying to be a good rolemodel.

Im so so fortunate that in the food/health arena mine is simply PRACTICING WHAT I PREACH SO THERES NO NEED TO PREACH and lovingly helping my daughter realize that she was born as enough. She already is.

I am bad about not going to bed early enough, but constantly "preach" about getting enough sleep. If there was a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's closer, I would shop there for things that are actually cheaper than the chain grocery stores, like nuts, quinoa, bell peppers, and spices. But I do tend to spend too much when I go to the one in the neighboring town.

Well, nothing to do with fitness, but I've yelled at my teens a-plenty for not putting their wet clothes into the dryer right away (because it'll have to be re-washed). But then I forgot to do this myself. Ooops! Lead by example, right?

I'm really bad with the negative self talk as well! I catch myself all the time and I find I really have to focus on staying positive! It's hard work but it really does help!

    Love the photo! Too cute!

I think you are right, that there is a lot of negative self thought that goes on with regards to our bodies, but on the other hand, if we were always satisfied with the status quo, we'd never improve! Look at your fabulous physique as an example.

I hope that even with my large weight loss, I am passing on healthy habits to my daughters rather than negative body image! I hope, I hope, I hope!

As far as do what I say, not what I do, I eat pretty healthy, but sometimes I do have something sweet in the morning!

    This was a great post!
