Are You in Control?

TGIF Friday, June 19, 2009

I know I have written a lot about emotional eating. Heck, many of you out there have posted on it as well along with tons of articles & news stories everywhere. Emotional eating is a huge stumbling block to our healthy eating & healthy lifestyle goals! Hey, nothing wrong with enjoying here & there... as I have said, moderation is the key & we all need to enjoy... but when emotional eating takes over too much either from work, family or money stress, it ain't pretty. Old baggage or past issues that are unresolved also are a source of emotional eating & often the cause of some people being overweight. We usually don't even know it until it is confronted head on which is hard to do... mainly because it is pushed deep down just so we will NOT think about it!!! Some of my past posts on emotional eating are below. You can search more just by going to the advanced search at the bottom of the left column.

Emotional Eating & My Mom's Bday

Anyway, what got me started on all this. I think I mentioned a few posts ago that my good ole 51.5 year old bod was changing again. I know, TMI for some men out there BUT it will help you understand your wife, girlfriend, women friends better so keep on reading! I can't tell you how many times things have changed in the past few years. It just keeps getting worse though.... will it ever end! Like 40+ years of the monthly stuff is not torture enough but then we have to deal with that & perimenopause stuff at the same time!!!! Again, I know, TMI! See, my hormones will not let me stop! Not all women have this & some have it worse than others BUT I beg you to be patient with them! I know men love to say that women can control the monthly PMS emotions but I beg to disagree & same with this change of life!

So, change is a coming!!!! I am so glad I work out because not only does it help me keep my weight under control the best I can BUT I can work out some frustrations, anger & yes, depression. I do feel somewhat in control in the gym & that is important during this time of life! Plus, I feel good about myself when I do it although that sometimes dissipates once I leave the gym with what I am going thru right now. It is amazing how these emotions take over & take control of you. Depressed all the time for who knows what reason.. just because! Sweats waking me up every hour of the night... jeez, I should just stay at the gym all night! It is 24 hours!!!!  Hair everywhere but where it should be. Adult crazy acne.. not even stuff you can do anything about because it keeps changing! HELP!

Anyway, just getting some hormonal issues off my back to the poor people that read me! I think between the hormones & Mom's & Dad's day back to back (both my parents are deceased), it makes it harder to handle the craziness! My hubby can't take any more!!!! BUT, I will be changing my routine again soon.. not that I don't all the time anyway, but I think time for a more major change. Will let you know when I figure it out! Trying to take control as hard as it is these days! My workouts allow me to do that. Don't give them up during this trying time OR any trying time. THEY DO HELP!

Coming up for the weekend:

Saturday: If you like cats (or even if you don't), you are going to have to check out my Saturday post. Not exercise related.. just fun!

Sunday: Father's Day. I will be posting a picture of my deceased Dad to remember him & sending love to my hubby who is so good to me & the love of my life!

Thx to all for listening today! If you want to share & get sh*t off your chest or offer up help for hormonal women, send it my way!!!!

Happy TGIF!

Gosh...This must be tough. My Aunti struggled with alcoholism in her twenties, got free from it, then began to drink again (now) in her fifties due to not being able to cope with the menopause.

    Jody, you're a strong woman!

Working out... is there anything that resistance training can't help with or cure? Honestly.

Yum Yucky is right, Jody is a tank! Btw I'll be checking your blog on Sat as a cat lover. I better see some cute kitty pics. (yes... FJ has a soft spot, shh!)

As for "offer up help for hormonal women..."

Hmm... I give out free hugs, and I've been told they're awesome. Does that count?

I'm getting close to menopause myself and OMG it sounds so challenging!

Why were our mothers so stoic about it? I had NO IDEA growing up that it was such a big deal, but as all my friends are going through it I'm realizing it's a huge transition.

It is crazy! I am not even there yet. I still get the monthly crap & these perimenopause symptoms too so I deal with them both at the same time! Yes, it is a big deal although I know others that have not had such a hard time. Maybe a genetic factor to it. Hard to say why some have more probs than others and I do all this healthy stuff too! YIKES!

I honestly think when I removed most processed foods from my diet and started trying to make sure Ii was getting as much nutrition as I could from my food, my night sweats and mood swings stopped. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but I don't think so. Even the year long issue I had with my shoulder stopped. Again, maybe a coincidence but an amazing one. I also stopped smoking a little over a year ago, and even though I was a very light smoker, I am sure that had some impact as well. But I haven't had any of my earlier issues in many months. Your diet is probably already pretty clean, maybe even cleaner than mine, so this is probably not much help. I hope you can find a way to Sleep Jody. To me, affects everything else, the depression, skin, etc. I truly believe that it doesn't have to be this way for us gals.

Hi Patty. Well, you are right, I really don't eat a lot of processed foods & don't smoke either. I have had this going on for a few years now & changing along the way. This is the worst it has been though. Maybe it is getting closer to menopause that is creating all this havoc. I know how important sleep is for sure! Looking forward to getting more of it again! I am just glad I work out!
