You are What You Love
WE ARE WHAT WE LOVE. That conjures up all sorts of things to write about. We can talk to emotional eating & how intertwined that is with our love of ourself. We can talk to our emotional well being & how intertwined that is with our eating, our relationships with family, friends, children, work and more. We can talk to our job.. do we love it or do it because we have to pay the bills. We can talk to our workout routine. Are you doing something you really like OR love that you can maintain long term. This statement means many things, different things and maybe even almost the same things to us.I came upon this article this morning when I was really going to write about a couple fitness routines... I think I may put them at the end of the post anyway. The article really captured me because it says it all to me in terms of life, work, love, exercise and what I did and did not do along the way. One thing I did not do is follow the path I love & that leaves me here now, blogging fitness/health, not working right now because I can't face doing something that will make me unhappy AND that will go against my moral fiber (Corporate jobs sometimes do that to you! A lot of years of that!). Yup, I need money for sure so I have to find a way to balance the things I love with the practicality of making money.
So, to the article, You are What You Love. The end paragraph is below but read the whole thing!
"Realizing that we are what we love and not what loves you is a revolutionary approach to opening your heart and discovering a capacity to embrace the world that you might not have known you are capable of. Loving builds emotional literacy and gives you the courage to feel the loss of love with grace and forgiveness. A loving and compassionate heart begets more love. The more you practice love with out the shame or the blame, the more love comes to you. Guaranteed."
Now, the article is not so much about physical fitness but our physical fitness & eating are more often caught up in our feeling about ourself or things that have happened in our life. I do hope that some of you read this & walk away with some additional help for any emotional eating problems that may be hindering your health goals or even your work, home, relationship goals.
This article is also saying to me in regards to fitness/health, find both a food & exercise program that fits you, that you really enjoy or like AND that you can maintain long term. Hey, it may change along the way & it did & does still with me BUT the key is too keep enjoying so that you can learn to live & love.
OK, I will add in a couple good workout options for the times when you just don't have enough time & to help with the stress. Check out this post from Live the Lean Life about short & effective workouts. I know they can work for you from personal experience! Short of time does not have to mean no workout. Also, from Oxygen Women's Fitness, here is a 20 minute cardio workout that you can tailor to fit your exercise level. You don't have to do exactly the same speed or incline but it gives you the basics: Melt Fat in 20 Minutes.
Have a great day and talk good to yourself for me. No put downs allowed!!!!! You do your best & that is good! Believe me, I am not there but I keep trying!

Lovely post Jody

OK, so when I first read the title, "You are What You Love" I came to realize that I am: Warm Roll Fresh Out of the Oven with Melted Butter. (sorry)

Hi Jody! Great article! I'm glad you are focused on doing something you love! Life is too short to spend it 'going through the motions'!
I also want to say thanks soooo much for the mention of my blog Live the lean life! I'm glad you enjoyed the post and I really appreciate the mention of it!

i'll take a yum yucky to go! lmao
it's so very true, at least in my case. my emotions control my weightloss world, and sometimes hinder me from my goals. the more positive i am about myself, my place, and things around me, everything seems to fall into place.

Charlotte, thx! If I wrote like you, I know what I would be doing!!!
Josie, you are too funny! But, you know my love of bread so fresh bread out of the oven.. you are on my wavelength!
Shauna, seems like you are on the right path for sure!
Cher, I think lots of people are with you. Emotions not only control the food but many other aspects of their lives! You keep up your good work!

I was going to leave a comment about your post, but then I got distracted by your sidebar text about sarcomas. Thanks for putting that up there; I too lost a parent to a sarcoma.
The trouble with the rare cancers is that the doctors have a lot more trouble figuring out what the problem is. Hopefully more research will lead to more education!

Thx for visiting Merry! What a weird but unfortunate coincidence. I am sorry for your loss! What type of sarcoma for your parent? It is such a devastating disease. I still read the ACOR site for sarcomas to keep me grounded.. as hard as it is to read it. Some days, I just can't! In case you missed, last week I did a few posts on cancer & sarcoma too.
