This is my own personal cause & for those that don't have one, they may want to think about donating to one of the Sarcoma
Foundations below. My mother passed away from a rare form of cancer called Lipsarcoma. It is one of about 50 subtypes of sarcomas that affect all age groups from the youngest to the oldest. It is a
"a cancer that begins in the muscle, fat, fibrous tissue, blood vessels, or other supporting tissue of the body". There is no cure & funding is low because of its rarity. As some of you may know,
the rarer the form of cancer, the less money that is usually allocated to it by the larger organizations or the NIH (National Health Institute) as well as fewer people donate because they just don't
know about it. This cancer just keeps coming back, grows back where it already was & spreads to other areas as well. You can learn more about it at these links.

Weight Loss/"Diet" - One Size Does NOT Fit All!
Thursday, April 16, 2009
I have always advocated finding programs, both eating & fitness wise, that match what you like and most importantly that you will stick with for life. We want to get away from the "diet" word which seems to indicate that you will do something for a period of time & then stop. What everyone needs is a program for life, not for short term or a specified period of time. You need to be able to sustain this long term, live with it & be happy with it! So,I decided to post an old entry from my long lost blog. It is a funny yet insightful read on how people find their own ways & inspirations to help them lose weight... just like my friend Paula from yesterday.
So, back then, I saw a great article about a lady that made up her own language to help her with her "life program". Everyone finds ways to make a health & fitness program for themselves & her way was quite fun to read. She invented a new language for her program like:
"DO IT PROGRAM" -- not a diet program --and so I'm now really "doing it" - eating healthier for life.
"APPRECI-EAT." This word is all about slowing down the eating and thereby tasting food more - so you'll want to eat less." I certainly have written about this in the past plus the slower you eat, the more time your body has to register the food & "tell you" that you are full.
"FORWARD" and "BACKWARD." Every food one chooses to eat either moves you forward to your dream weight - or backwards to gaining more weight.
"WALLPOWER!" To hell with ordinary mere mortal willpower. When you have WALLPOWER, nothing will be able to break through your wall of commitment!
I really liked one of her facts too which says: FACT: If you want to lose weight you must make sure your appetite for life is far bigger than your appetite for mere food.
I certainly hope that this gives you another option to help with your own program or at the least, shows you how to think differently to accomplish your own personal goals! Maybe it is something like the above. Maybe it is like Paula from yesterday who has that white board in her office that she sees every day & plots her accomplishments both exercise & food wise. Maybe it is like me who just wants to push the envelope for a 51 year old "battleaxe"! I love that the younger guys in the gym start checking out their own arms every time they see mine. I find it amusing! I am doing one thing right! AND, just little things like that are a motivation to me.
Find and make your own motivation. you can do it!!!! Tell me what you do or what motivates you!!!
PS: In yesterday's post about Paula, I meant to say that she has different color circles for her boot camp classes than other exercise activities. Sorry for the typo & I have corrected it on the post.
PPS:If you had not noticed, periodically I put new "Tips of the Day" and "Quote of the Day" on my side bar. This is the new quote I put there today. I like it!
"Don't listen to anyone who tells you that you can't do this or that. That's nonsense. Make up your mind, you'll never use crutches or a stick, then have a go at everything. Go to school, join in all the games you can. Go anywhere you want to. But never, never let them persuade you that things are too difficult or impossible".
- Sir Douglas Bader, a British fighter pilot who lost both legs in a flying accident, but still fought in World War Two. He was knighted for his work with the disabled, and the quote above is from his talk to a 14-year-old boy who had lost a leg in a car accident.
