Organic Veggies/Fruit - Pesticide Issues
Many of us wish we could buy organic all the time & for most of the foods we eat, but money-wise we just can't do it. Organic foods tend to be higher priced & we are all on a budget... especially these days! So, here is some help so that you can at least choose organic items to replace the most pesticide laden ones in your kitchen. Before I start there, keep in mind that buying from your local produce farms/stands not only will save the nutrients in your produce due to no time lost in shipping, but many of them can't afford to get organically certified although they may be growing their foods organically anyway. Develop a relationship with them & I am sure other regulars at the stand/farm can offer up their opinions as well.
I read an article referencing this site, Shopper's Guide to Pesticides, and they had their list of the "dirty dozen" or the worst pesticide load as well as a full list of the worst & best. You can click on other links on their site to see their methodology. Click on the link above to see their list. You will see a sign-up box but if you look below it, it will say if you prefer not to sign up, just click for the guide. There is also a link for the full list of the good vs. the bad pesticide laden produce items but you can click right here as well: FULL LIST

I buy both my meats and fruits from the Amish people at the local farmers market. They travel from the Pennsylvanie Dutch country every weekend to sell their food. I'm so glad they're close to my home

Very cool!!! I grew up back east & one of the places I lived was Dover, Delaware. The Amish used to come down our street in their horse drawn carriages & sell eggs, fruits & veggies. It was a great experience!

very helpful list. I don't buy too much produce that is organic because it is so expensive, but I do buy my produce from local farms/stands. I will have to check with them. Thanks for the info.

I notice you used to leave in the east coast. I live in PA. Now you are in California. Which do you like better?

Hi Kristi. I loved growing up in the east in smaller towns & the 4 seasons & real ponds to ice skate on & no fences & all that. As an adult, I am not sure I want the snow again since I have been gone from it since I was a freshman in high school but it is so very crowded, population wise where I live. It makes me crazy at times & the driving is nuts! They each have good & bad points. I like the nicer weather though!
