Women & Men Diet Differently
Before I start chatting about how men & women diet differently, let me point you to my newest "Tip of the Day". I will be posting more about this tip in the week so come back for that. Also, I do not change the Tip of the Day and the Quote of the Day every day so it is up there long enough for people that may not visit every day. I do change both of them periodically so check them out as well as my post.OK, back to how women and men diet differently. I saw this Newsweek article referenced from Diet Blog, one of my favorite sites. There was quite a bit of discussion on it along with myself personally. I think it made some very good points so I wanted to post it as well. The article points to how men and women both need to eat less & exercise more to lose weight. Duh. We all know that & I posted about how the newest studies show that it does not matter what kind of diet you are on, it is the calorie deficit that creates weight loss. You can do that either thru eating less or a combination of eating less & exercising (my pick for the best way to lose weight & proven that the weight is kept off better by people that do it this way). See my post of February 26, 2009.
The article states that "figuring out which dieting tricks and tactics boost the kind of willpower you need to turn down those fries, Oreos or piña coladas is far more complicated than just counting calories. And, it turns out, many of the weight-loss strategies that inspire women won't work for men—and vice versa. That's because dudes diet differently." Some of the things discussed are that women are more emotional eaters than men (got a lot of discussion), men prefer to compete to lose weight (I saw a news story on this about how men go to online betting sites for weight loss way more than women), women are label readers much more than men, men have more muscle than women so they burn more calories (muscle matters & I have said that continuously in my posts. I am a working example of that!). This is a great article to read because it may give you insight into what works best for you OR why you do the things you do to lose weight or in some cases, not lose weight. Read it here: Why Men & Women Diet Differently
Now saying all this, I am not saying that all women do one thing & all men do another. BUT, I do agree that in general, this list is correct. So, if you are a women & making a bet or challenge to lose weight is best for you, go for it! If you are a man with an emotional eating problem & talking to friends or family is best for you, don't be afraid to do that. Use this article to help you see what might help you & as I always say... DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU & WHAT WILL WORK LONG TERM & FOR LIFE!
