Mind/Exercise Connection
We have all heard of the mind/muscle link. Not just going through the motions but getting your mind totally into what you are doing. So, I just take it 1 step more. The mind/exercise link. This means that no matter what you are doing for exercise, get completely engaged in it, pay attention to what you are doing, engage the mind and body. This means whether you are doing cardio, weights, kick boxing, yoga ..... it does not matter. The more you put into it & the more you stay focused between your mind & body, the more you are going to get out of it and the means RESULTS!I absolutely follow the mind/muscle link motto whenever I work out & I attribute it to the gains I have made along the way. Every workout has this as the most important component because if I don't connect with what I am doing or if I don't listen to my body, I will not "hear" what my body is telling me. Even doing the same move, I may tweak the position of my body from workout to workout because I am paying attention to this mind/muscle link & some days it just feels better to do that same move a bit differently.
I know you have all seen the people that come into the gym & chat up a storm with their friend on the cardio machine next to them like they are taking a leisurely walk. Or, they are reading the paper or a magazine while they pedal away at level 1 endlessly with no thought to any effort they should be putting into their workout. Don't complain that you are not losing any weight if this is you!
Two years ago, I never thought that I would be pushing my limits with intervals and plyometrics. I push myself with intervals in the speed range of 9-10 on the treadmill. I incline the treadmill & hill jog/walk intervals. I do plyometrics as part of my resistance program. It all comes back to the mind/body link. I have said this before & I will say it again: YOU CAN DO MORE THAN YOUR MIND TELLS YOU! When I added in the super fast intervals, I was scared but I tried it & I could do it. Let go of your fears & put your all into your exercise & diet program. Engage yourself. I guaranty you will see results!
