Manage Night Eating
The dreaded nighttime munchies! We all have had them, we all still have them (or at least 99% of us) and many people still have trouble controlling their eating at night. I have posted before about this but why not again. It seems to keep coming back to haunt many weight loss goals.First, if you are a person that tends to starve themself during the day, STOP! This is a sure way to set yourself up for failure. if you have not eaten enough during the day, the risk is coming home & eating everything in front of you for dinner & following that up with a snack later that may be too high in calories & fat leading to you basically eating too many calories each day. You are just ingesting too many calories & they are calories that are just going to sit there. Even healthy food can make you gain weight if you eat too much of it!!! If you are a person that gets home very late, try making your breakfast the biggest meal of the day, then lunch & a smaller dinner if you must eat your dinner closer to bedtime. If you are a mini meal person, try to eat your starchy carbs earlier in the day & make your late night meal higher in protein along with maybe a salad or veggie.
Also, plan for your healthier snacks & keep those in the house & handy... and portioned out! If you can't control your craving for a particular food like potato chips, DON'T BRING IT IN THE HOUSE! In addition, don't eat out of the bag or container. Measure out the portion to eat & put the rest away! I keep my after dinner snack at about 200 calories & something that is not heavy or bloating. There are many nights that I may eat it only 1-1.5 hours before bed but it is nothing that is heavy or calorie dense. If I am not hungry, I don't eat it! I always brush my teeth right after eating my after dinner snack & that stops me from eating any more.
These are just a couple suggestions & I have more but since I could go on for a while, I thought I would link you to an article from the Diet Detective that provides lots of suggestions to help you with nighttime munchies. Read it here: Manage Night Eating
