"Getting Fat at the Movies" is the title of an article off Diet Detective. Weekends are times when most of us go to movies so I thought it only appropriate to provide a link to this article so you can face reality about what you are eating there! Yes, figuring in "treats" is important to making your "diet" livable, but when what you eat adds up to more calories than you should eat in a day and you are still eating all your other meals too, hey, we have a problem!
Check out these couple of paragraphs from this article: "These days, a large popcorn with butter, soda, and a bag of candy could add up to as much as 2,500 calories and more than three days' worth of saturated fat. Even if you go to the movies ONLY once a month, you could gain as much as 8.5 pounds per year." Now, do you really want to add over 8 pounds per year!!!! Also, here are some statistics on the candy there:

Cotton Candy (2.5 oz): 300 calories, 0g fat, 74g carbs
Junior Mints (3 oz): 320 calories, 5g fat, 68g carbs

Sno-Caps (3.1 oz): 360 calories, 16g fat, 60g carbs
Raisinets (3.5 oz): 380 calories, 16g fat, 64g carbs

Skittles (6.75 oz): 765 calories, 9g fat, 166.5g carbs
Reese's Pieces (8 oz): 1200 calories, 60g fat, 138g carbs
OK, after reading this, I hope this helps you think twice before totally indulging at the theater. The article gives better options or even "sneaking" your own good stuff in there. I know, we are not supposed to bring our own food but if they would provide healthier options PLUS remember that we are in very difficult money times so the price is not so outrageous... well, maybe we would not have to sneak our own stuff in there!!!!
