"Diet" /Weight Loss Tips
Today I had intended to write about people getting real with themselves about their weight loss/"diet" goals, their food intake, their exercise habits and more. Low and behold, all over the Internet & on TV today is a story about diets. The article stated this: "Low-fat, low-carb or high-protein? The kind of diet doesn't matter, scientists say. All that really counts is cutting calories and sticking with it, according to a federal study that followed people for two years. Limiting the calories you consume and burning off more calories with exercise is key." OK, more on that in a bit.I wanted to tell you a story about when I was younger & a personal trainer. I had a client that came to me & said she wanted to lose "her hips" and about 20 pounds in 2 months. Right there, I told her that these were unrealistic goals but I would help her as best I could in terms of cardio, a weight workout & of course her "diet" or food program. I got her on the treadmill & all I heard from her was how hard it was & I can't do that & so on. If she was to start cardio without me, I would find her moving at the pace of a turtle. She would complain all the way thru the weights & she was not doing what I asked her to do in terms of diet.... especially since she wanted some results pretty quickly. I could get her some help but not her unrealistic goals. She was her own worst enemy.
So, does this sound familiar to any of you. Don't blame your trainer or your genetic make-up or the scale or work or anything else if you are basically "lying to yourself" about what you are really eating or if you are not pushing yourself with your exercise plan. You need to set specific, short and long term ATTAINABLE goals. You need to be honest with yourself. You need to be forgiving as well. If you mess up a meal, don't say I screwed up & I will start over tomorrow or Monday. Get right back to it the next meal. Reward yourself with non-food things like personal time,a new workout outfit, a manicure or pedicure.. whatever works for you.
Remember, you can do more than you think you can ... your mind may say no but just give it a try & you may find YOU CAN DO IT!
Now, back to the article. Not only did it discuss calories in, calories out & your need to burn off more than you eat to lose weight but it also stated that those that had counseling or group support (even a workout buddy can work for this) lost the most weight. If you are a person that is not self motivated, this is where a group or reliable friend will help. Read the full article here: It Is not the Diet, It is Calories
