Eating Out Strategies

Sunday, February 15, 2009

With the fast paced lifestyle of today and people working more than 1 job, many resort to eating out not only at lunch but at dinner too. I have written about the fact that people who eat out a lot not only eat more calories than those that eat at home but of course are more likely to be overweight or even obese. If you can, do as I post and plan ahead for the week. Make up some meals in advance, portion out small snacks for the days ahead in mini zip lock bags, make chicken or another protein on the weekend & store for the week or even invest in a crock pot & that way dinner is cooking while you work.

Now, we all know there are times we are going to eat out. I have posted many articles on restaurant food & the tons of calories, fat and hidden fat .... don't forget that restaurants like to butter your steak, chicken & fish before cooking so do check on that before ordering! So, here are a couple more articles to assist you when you do go out.

The website, I Look Like Fit, had this article taken from the Eat This Not That author, on ways to save calories at places like McDonald's, Chipolte, Chick-Fil-A and more. Read that here: I Look Like Fit Article

I also have a good article for you from Joy Bauer of The Today Show. She has a new book out & she does have a lot of good strategies to learn from & add to your program. Here is an article on how to eat healthier when you go out to a restaurant. Things she suggests are staying away from the sauces, be careful of some condiments, keep the butter off the bread if you must indulge or just ask them not to bring the bread to the table, make special requests and more. I do a lot of what she suggests when I am out. I like bread & I like it plain so I do have my 1 piece. If you are a person that can't stop, you may want to have them NOT bring the bread. I do special order my chicken grilled with no butter, I ask for my veggies steamed with no sauce or butter so I can add what I want, I do make sure any sauces or condiments are on the side and more.
